Future Learning Group (FLG) fosters an inclusive gaming and learning environment by combining adaptive technologies, accessible design, and a teamwork-oriented approach. These features ensure users with diverse abilities can engage, contribute, and succeed.

1. Physical Disabilities and Mobility Impairments

FLG is designed to support users with various physical challenges, including limited hand dexterity or mobility. Accessibility features include:

  • Alternative Input Methods: Support for the Xbox Adaptive Controller and other hardware/software solutions.

  • Adjustable Difficulty and Speed: Games can be tailored to suit different physical capabilities.

  • Accessible UI: High-contrast options, text-to-speech features, and clear layouts enhance navigation.

  • Flexible Roles: Certain roles (e.g., Planner) require less motor skill intensity.

  • Teamwork Support: Teammates and coaches can assist with controls, strategies, and task adaptations.

2. Vision Impairments

The platform accommodates users with blindness, low vision, and colour blindness through:

  • Customisable Visual Settings: Adjustable text size, high-contrast design, and simplified interfaces.

  • Communication-Centric Gameplay: Emphasis on teamwork allows sharing of strengths, with verbal descriptions and guidance from teammates and coaches.

  • Alternative Instructions: Tailored feedback and alternative communication methods for those with limited visual input.

3. Hearing Impairments

For users with deafness, partial hearing loss, or auditory processing challenges, FLG offers:

  • Visual Replacements for Audio: On-screen indicators, visual cues, and text chat minimise reliance on sound.

  • Customisable Audio Settings: Adjustable volume and sound effects ensure comfort and usability.

  • Collaborative Environment: Inclusive team dynamics encourage text-based and visual communication.

  • Coaching Strategies: Coaches provide personalized guidance using visual aids and written instructions.

 

4. Speech Impairments

To support players with speech challenges such as muteness or stuttering, FLG includes: 

  • Integrated Text Chat: Enables non-verbal communication for all players.

  • AAC Tool Compatibility: Works with augmentative and alternative communication devices/software.

  • Non-Verbal Cues: Visual indicators enhance understanding and teamwork.

  • Team Roles and Culture: Roles requiring less verbal interaction are available, and inclusive practices reduce communication anxiety.
